The power of gold

Gold, the precious metal by excellence, has exerted a fascination since Antiquity.

“The public has little idea of the care and worry which goes into the search for a new perfume which they see simply in a little packet. I feel myself as much a parfumier as a couturier.”

Its inalterability makes it a symbol of eternity, while its rarity is an expression of both political and religious power. Gold has been used to create the most precious objects, decorate palace walls, and adorn rulers and leaders, who thus become the most dazzling and singular incarnation of sovereignty. The perfume J'adore was created by a woman, Calice Becker, in 1999. The bottle, designed by Hervé van der Straeten, takes the form of a gold-rimmed amphora, reminiscent of the curves of the En 8 line designed by Christian Dior in 1947.

Victoire de Castellane imagined an limited edition with an elaborate Fontanges bow, while architect and designer India Mahdavi produced a version with a necklace wrapped around the amphora bottle. This perfume has never stopped inspiring contemporary artists and was even transformed into a hypnotic sculpture by way of the incredible creativity of Constance Guisset. The J'adore woman manifests the triumphant beauty of modern feminity.
