The Dior style

On 12 February 1947, in Paris, the legendary Bar suit, with its easily recognisable slender nipped waist, sloping shoulders, accentuated basques and flared skirt, was shown for the first time and became the symbol of the New Look.

Dior’s style was born, underscoring Christian Dior's desire to make women “not only more beautiful, but happier.” His sketches highlighted and emphasised feminine curves, with each creation designed to enhance the body in movement. Each of his lines – named En 8, Corolle, Envol, Verticale, Oblique, Tulipe, Muguet, Y and Flèche – embodied Dior’s style: a modern yet timeless elegance.

“I think of my work as ephemeral architecture, dedicated to the beauty of the female body.”

That inventive passion has been perpetuated by his successors and, now, by the unique perspective of the artist Katerina Jebb, who has created seven scanographic portraits. Her magnetic images underline the physicality of their models while expressing a strange poetry.
